Gilgamesh

Enkidu was created to make Gilgamesh more human. Prior to Enkidu's creation Gilgamesh was more insensitive and didn't really think about things the same way. Enkidu thought that taking all the virginities of the brides was wrong, Gilgamesh wouldn't have thought twice about it if it weren't for him. The differences between a human being and a non human are substantial. Humans have feelings and different physical characteristics, Gilgamesh was two thirds god which i suppose could be the reason for his extreme strength and huge figure, Enkidu was two thirds animal one third human which was made to balance out Gilgamesh.
When Gilgamesh turned down sexual interaction with the goddess i think it said a lot about him, the fact that he had the mind set that he wanted to be human rather then more so god from being with the goddess, showed that he had changed. I think the old Gilgamesh would have absolutely taken the opportunity to have that happen, but the fact that he chose not to to be more human took emotion. Emotion that he hadn't shown before, a completely new side of him which i believe was brought out because of Enkidu. Both Enkidu and Gilgamesh are different from the average human being, they are extraordinary!

ALONE. by: edgar allen poe

ALONE by: edgar allen poe

From childhood’s hour I have not been
As others were—I have not seen
As others saw—I could not bring
My passions from a common spring—
From the same source I have not taken
My sorrow—I could not awaken
My heart to joy at the same tone—
And all I lov’d—I lov’d alone—
Then—in my childhood—in the dawn
Of a most stormy life—was drawn
From ev’ry depth of good and ill
The mystery which binds me still—
From the torrent, or the fountain—
From the red cliff of the mountain—
From the sun that ’round me roll’d
In its autumn tint of gold—
From the lightning in the sky
As it pass’d me flying by—
From the thunder, and the storm—

From ev’ry depth of good and ill
The mystery which binds me still—
From the torrent, or the fountain—
From the red cliff of the mountain—
From the sun that ’round me roll’d
In its autumn tint of gold—
From the lightning in the sky
As it pass’d me flying by—

(When the rest of Heaven was blue)
Of a demon in my view—

From ev’ry depth of good and ill
The mystery which binds me still—
From the torrent, or the fountain—
From the red cliff of the mountain—
From the sun that ’round me roll’d
In its autumn tint of gold—
From the lightning in the sky
As it pass’d me flying by—
From the thunder, and the storm—

To me this poem is inspiring! I love the rhythm and clever wording towards the end. I see this as talking about living your life different then everyone else, being an individual. Maybe not a very bright individual, but one that feels that they have experienced things differently. More lonesome and not as joy filled. This makes me think that even is everyone doesn't feel the same emotions, that they can still get some knowledge out of life and what life has to offer. The poem made me feel sad for the person that feels this way, but i feel they are strong! Very very strong!
The lines "From ev’ry depth of good and ill
The mystery which binds me still—
From the torrent, or the fountain—
From the red cliff of the mountain—
From the sun that ’round me roll’d
In its autumn tint of gold—
From the lightning in the sky
As it pass’d me flying by—
From the thunder, and the storm—" are my favorite part of the poem. Part of that is just because they sound good and they are smooth. But a part is how they show examples of how far and wide this emotion is. I can relate because i think everyone feels lonely from time to time or feels they are different. Different isn't a bad thing but i love the way this poem examples these things.
